• Hire a removal company at least two weeks before the moving date. Most people have a moving date once the contracts are exchanged.
  • Look at a few quotations before you select a removal company. Look at factors such as the provision of packaging materials, storage and disposal services.
  • Avoid weekends and Fridays for the move because this tends to be the busiest times. Off – peak slots could be less stressful.
  • Ensure that the removal company you’re using is fully insured for the move. If you have any valuable belongings use your contents insurance for the move.
  • If you accept an estimate, make sure that you receive a written quotation as well.
  • Once you have booked the removal company, make sure that the removal company has a detailed account of your house set- out to make the move as smooth as possible e.g. if there is a flight of stairs or parking permit is required. If a parking permit is required it’s your responsibility to sort it out. It’s best to keep your removal company in the loop coming up to the moving date.
  • Expect to be charged for the extra facilities used such as the packaging service, the delivery between the addresses and the storing of your goods.
